Utila Honduras - OWSI Certified

My guiding career began in Honduras where I went to pursue my passion for scuba diving. Training there included learning about the local ecology, professionalism in guiding, dive operations, and safety considerations. I really enjoyed meeting clients from all over the world, who I got to share the beautiful reef with. I spent my free time diving as much as could - that's what I was there for!

Back in Oregon, I continued teaching scuba in the high lakes for multiple summers.

During university, I took leadership classes, guided day and overnight trips, and taught term-long classes, working for years to earn my Adventure Leadership Certificate. I was a key player in re-energizing the outdoor program after covid, being part of the team to bring back mountaineering and advanced rock climbing trips. The guide community was very tight, helping each other both in and out of the job. We had reoccurring training sessions on technical and personal skills that I lead and participated in. The experience greatly improved my communication and team working abilities.

Learning About Nature

Lake Clean-Up

I graduated with a BS in environmental science, earning Summa Cum Laude GPA honors. I took a wide range of classes, including earth, atmosphere, hydro, bio, and geological sciences. My focus was in water resource management, where I was particularly interested in groundwater and stream restoration. Many of my classes were hands on out in the field which fit my learning style well. I am confident in my ability to learn about environmental topics through several methods, and present on them in an informative yet entertaining way.

The Rock Gym

I spent many hours at the rock gym, working as a climbing center manager, and climbing club president. I was responsible for teaching new staff professional and safety standards, as well as proper route setting technique. Throughout my time at OSU, I taught every term-long class offered at the gym, passing on teaching skills to junior staff along the way. During our annual climbing competition, I delegated tasks and oversaw logistics to ensure a smooth event. As president of the university's climbing club, I strived to create a welcoming environment for new climbers while encouraging advanced climbers to push their limits. I worked with the local climbing gym to create a more interconnected climbing community. Along with the other officers, I communicated with opposing teams and coordinated travel logistics for climbing competitions.
